WFAN Now Accepting Applications for 2014 Mentorship Program for Women Farmers in IA and NE

If you’re a woman farmer, or want to be one, consider taking part in the 2014 Harvesting Our Potential program of Women, Food and Agriculture Network. 2014 Harvesting Our Potential program applications are now available online. We have three opportunities for women farmers in Iowa and Nebraska:

  1. If you’re an aspiring farmer (wants to farm but not yet farming), you can apply to participate in an on-farm mentorship for 8 to 10 weeks with an experienced woman farmer. We’ll match you with someone as close to you in geography and farm type as possible.
  2. If you’re a beginning farmer (farming 10 years or fewer), you can apply to participate in an off-farm mentorship with an experience woman farmer who can help you progress toward your farming goals. This relationship will consist primarily of email and/or phone contact each week for a year, and one visit to each other’s farm.
  3. If you’re an established farmer (farming 5 years or more) and want to share your knowledge and experience with a new farmer, you can apply to be one of our on- or off-farm mentors.

Mentors receive stipends, as do on-farm mentees.

You can learn more about the program, and access the application forms, at this link. Please call or email me with any questions.

We will continue to take mentee applications until all positions are filled for 2014 (10 on-farm mentees in IA and 4 in NE; 5 off-farm mentees in IA, and 2 in NE). We will take mentor applications through Jan. 15. Our mentor training will take place in mid-February, dates and location to be announced shortly.
