Empowering Veterans to Thrive in Agriculture

2016-08-30_11.14.13Tuesday, August 30th, Congressman David Young, held three events to help ensure we live up to the promises made to our service members, our veterans, and their families.  From 9 a.m. to noon there was a Veterans Care Fair.  Veterans and community service agencies and organizations were on hand with information about the services they provide to veterans and their families.  At 9:30 a.m. Congressman Young held a “Maximize Your VA Benefits” workshop.  Representatives and experts from the VA and service organizations, presented timely information and answered questions about veteran’s benefits.  At 11 a.m. Congressman Young, conducted a “Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony”.  The ceremony honored living and deceased Vietnam Era Veterans and their families for their valor, service, and sacrifice.  Living United States Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to be presented with the official “Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin”.

See Us Monday At The Iowa State Fair!

August 14, 2017 is Veterans Day at the Iowa State Fair.  Visit us Monday in the Agricultural Building and visit with farmer veterans.  We will be located to the left of the stage.  Don’t forget to visit partner sites, such as the USDA booth and learn about programs specifically for farmer veterans.  A flyer with more sites will be available at our booth.  Stay for the 2017 Friend of Veterans In Agriculture award ceremony.

Upcoming Event! USDA Disease Lab: Tour, Info On Ag Bio Security, and More

A tour and program at the USDA Disease Lab in Ames, Iowa is set for August 31, 2017. The day will include a tour of the facility, networking with their veterans group, as well as information on ag bio-security. Registration begins at 9 am, with the first program at 9:30 am. A picture ID, such as a driver’s license will be required to pass through security as you enter the building. Lunch will be
